Tasmanian Police to get Real time GPS Tracking

In a press release issued today, The Tasmanian Government will be spending $1.1 million to fit Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) technology to patrol vehicles, allowing them to be monitored using Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) data.

Tractor with GPS Autosteer fitted

I was reading this news article recently that touched upon a Tractor being auto-steered by a GPS. Interesting stuff indeed. After fitting the system to a tractor the operator can expect to deliver accurate (within a few centremetres) steering of farm equipment for field preparation, laying beds or listing, planting, cultivating and strip tillage. This means that the work can be performed more efficiently cutting down costs associated with fuel, chemicals and fertilizers.

Dont let your GPS become sat nabbed this Christmas.

Victorian Police are saying that the reported number of theft of valuables from motorvehicles are at an all time high.

This problem is compounded Due to motorists failing to remove valuables from their cars.

Det Sen Sgt Thomas states,

MIO makes a Moov

MIO are about to launch 3 new GPS models - due to hit the shelves in Australia on the 1st of September 2008.

The first interesting point to notice is that MIO will become one of the 1st GPS manufacturers in Australia to use maps from Navteq as opposed to Telstra's Whereis business.

Now there is not much to crow about with the base model Moov 300 but the other two will carry some interesting features.
