THERE is much controversy in Ballina on the Far North Coast surrounding the possible demise of The Big Prawn. Will it be destroyed, or will it be moved somewhere else? The 14-metre high Big Prawn was built in 1990 at a cost of $500,000 and is one of Ballina's most famous tourist attractions, will be demolished early next year as part of plans to redevelop the Caltex site. Demolition firm using GPS wreck wrong house

After finding his house demolished the owner confronted the demolishers they had the following discussion:-

Owner: "What address did you have?"
Demolisher: "They sent me some GPS coordinates."
Owner: "Don’t you have an address?"
Demolisher: "Yes, my GPS coordinates led me right to this address here and this house was described’”

39 New Survey Markers in QLD

In a Q150 Project surveyors in Queenslang will be placing 39 GPS Markers across the state at some of the major Tourist locations.

Shaun Reed of Gracemere Surveying and Planning Consultants Pty Ltd (GSPC) said permanent concrete survey markers, displaying the GPS longitude and latitude co-ordinates on a plaque, would help tourists program the exact co-ordinates into their vehicle GPS navigation systems.

Fencing the Ocean

An interesting article in the Eyre Peninsula Tribune states that the fleet of 39 prawn boats operating in the Spencer gulf will be using a ‘harvest plan’ when prawning kicks off in November.

The article states "Where farmers on land may have fences, the prawn fleet has GPS positions. Where today’s tractors are directed by satellite navigation so is the modern prawn boat.".
