Wauchope is a Service town which operates as a centre for people wishing to visit the remarkable Devils Marbles. Located 114 km south of Tennant Creek (390 km from Alice Springs and 1092 km south of Darwin), Wauchope lies to the west of the Murchison and Davenport Ranges. replacenewlinereplacenewlineThe town serves the travellers on the Stuart Highway. Historically it was established to service the mining communities in the area (wolfram was mined to the east of the town) as well as the Barkly Tablelands cattle industry. replacenewlinereplacenewlineToday there is little evidence of the wolfram mining which took place in the area. In fact the tour operators and the Tourist Information Office at Tennant Creek claim they don't even know if there are any ruins. Certainly there is no marked road out to the ruins.
